The PM Surya Ghar subsidy is real money — up to ₹78,000 paid straight into your bank account. It is also the step where roughly one in three applications gets delayed or rejected, almost always for small, avoidable reasons.
This is the complete process for a Jaipur homeowner, in the order it actually happens.

Are you eligible?
- You must have a residential electricity connection. Commercial and industrial connections do not qualify for this particular subsidy.
- The connection should be in your name, and you should own the roof or have written permission from the owner.
- You must not have claimed a rooftop solar subsidy before for the same premises.
- The installation must be done by a vendor registered on the national portal, using ALMM-approved panels. Self-installation does not qualify.
Documents to keep ready
- Aadhaar card of the connection holder
- Your latest electricity bill, showing the JVVNL consumer number clearly
- Bank passbook first page or a cancelled cheque, for the DBT transfer
- Property ownership proof — sale deed, registry or property tax receipt
- A recent photograph of your rooftop, useful during the feasibility stage
The step-by-step process
- Register on the national portal. Go to pmsuryaghar.gov.in, select Rajasthan and your DISCOM (JVVNL for Jaipur), and register with your mobile number and consumer number.
- Submit the rooftop solar application. Fill in your desired capacity and upload documents. Take a screenshot of the reference number.
- Wait for feasibility approval. JVVNL checks whether your connection and sanctioned load can support the system. This normally takes 7 to 15 days in Jaipur.
- Get it installed by a registered vendor. Only after feasibility approval. Insist on ALMM-listed panels and keep the serial numbers.
- Apply for net metering. Your installer submits the plant details; JVVNL inspects and installs the bi-directional meter. Usually 10 to 20 days.
- Upload the commissioning certificate and claim. Once the meter is in and the plant is commissioned, submit bank details on the portal. The subsidy arrives by DBT in 30 to 45 days.
The five reasons applications get rejected
- Name mismatch. The name on the electricity bill does not exactly match the Aadhaar or bank account. This is the single most common cause of delay.
- Insufficient sanctioned load. If your sanctioned load is lower than the system capacity, JVVNL will reject it. You must apply for load enhancement first.
- Installing before approval. Panels put up before feasibility clearance are not eligible. Never let anyone start work early.
- Non-ALMM panels. If the modules are not on the ALMM list, the claim fails at verification even after installation is complete.
- Wrong bank details. A closed account or an IFSC typo silently stalls the DBT. Double-check before submitting.
